Facebook Finds Activity From Foreign Entities During US Mid Terms



Facebook been notified by US law enforcement about online activity that they have discovered and believe to be linked to found foreign entities. 

Early into Facebook's investigation, they have identified 30 Facebook accounts and 85 Instagram accounts  that may be engaged in coordinated inauthentic behaviour. These accounts were in the French and Russian language and were immediately blocked. 

Facebook are still investigating, including to find out whether these accounts are liked to the Russia-based Internet Research Agency or other foreign entities.  They will provide updates once this investigation has been concluded. 

Facebook also found in their investigations in October, that 82 Facebook Pages, Groups and Accounts in Iran were engaged in inauthentic behaviour on Facebook and Instagram with the objective to mislead others about who they were or what they were doing. Once this activity was detected, they were removed.  

Facebook has over 20 000 people working on safety and security and investing in better technology including using AI to detect fake accounts.
