Ming is CEO - Mother of Unicorns, is the Western Australia Ambassador for the Social Media Marketing Institute and speaker at the Social Media Marketing Summit. Ming is regularly heard on 6PR Radio and is also an ambassador for RUOK? Ming is a massive supporter of the Social Media Marketing Institute and we really appreciate all her help.
 
How did you get started in social media?

By accident! Originally started in a tech training company coming out of a management position in Telstra, I quickly pivoted to training in the social media space because I was using it to promote myself in the very early days and I was approached by a wedding celebrant to run workshops 10 years ago. The rest is history.

What do you love most about social media?

That it suits my need for variety 📷📷 the constant changes keep me on my toes constantly learning which I love.

Who is your biggest influence?

My Pohpoh (Chinese grandmother) she was a whirlwind force, a matriarch and entrepreneur who was the sole distributor for brands like Elizabeth Arden, while she wasn't a part of my life until I was 26 she has largely influenced my belief of being a successful woman in business.

Why is it important to be a member of SMMI?

Being connected to industry peers who have different skills to your own help to keep you sharp and allow for that growth and innovation in an industry that is in constant flux, having an organisation like SMMI gives you that trusted network of peers.

What do you think is a trend in social media in 2020/1?

Now more than ever businesses are discovering the world of digital as a result of a pandemic, this is an opportunity to demonstrate how well we work in with the traditional marketing forms, especially video with in-stream ads being made available this past week on Facebook this will allow small agencies to preform at large agency level, coming up with creative storytelling via the news feed will help bring small and medium sized brands to the forefront of the consumer eye.
