Twitter Announces a New Stories Feature Called "Fleets"

Twitter have announced that they are testing Stories which they have named "Fleets"

The announcement was made on the Brazilian Twitter Blog in Portuguese so below is a translation of what was posted:

"Twitter is the place where you talk about topics that interest you. But some people say they feel insecure to Tweet because Tweets are public, permanent and exhibit public engagement counts (likes and Retweets). We want to make it possible for you to have conversations on the platform in new ways, with less pressure and more control, in addition to Tweets and Direct Messages (DMs). This is the reason why we will test, starting today in Brazil, a new feature called Fleets, a way to have conversations initiated with your fleeting thoughts.

Fleets are for you to share your ideas and momentary opinions. These posts disappear after 24 hours and have no Retweets, likes or public comments. In an initial survey, people told us that, once the Fleets disappear, they are more comfortable sharing everyday and everyday thoughts. We hope that those people who are not usually comfortable with Tweeting use Fleets to talk about the reflections that come to their head

Since Brazil is one of the countries where people talk the most on Twitter, with many of you passionate about talking and following other Brazilians on the platform, we are excited to test the new functionality here. Based on the test, we’ll learn how the existence of a new way of talking changes the way you interact on Twitter and whether it allows you to share what you’re thinking more comfortably.

Like Tweets, Fleets are based primarily on text, but you can include videos, GIFs or photos in them. If you want to reply to a Fleet, click on it to send a Direct Message (DM) or emoji, and continue this conversation on your DMs. Your followers will be able to see your Fleets at the top of their Home Page, and anyone who can access your full profile will also be able to find your Fleets there. If your DMs are open, anyone can react to your Fleets.

Fleets will become available during this week in Brazil only in the application, whether iOS or Android. Try and Tweet using the hashtag #FleetsFeedback telling us what you think of the new feature - this will help us to improve the functionality. Depending on how the test goes, we must take the Fleets to other countries. Thanks!"
