World Emoji Day

Apple releases 59 new emojis on World Emojis.

Whether you love them or hate them, emojis have become an important part of our communication particularly in text messaging and social media.

What is an emoji?

According to Hubspot, "emojis are small icons and images created using Unicode Standard"

There are only 3000 emojis in existence and for an emoji to be approved, it needs to be approved by the Unicode Committee.

This year's new emojis include disability themes, a range of animals including a flamingo and a sloth,  there is a new yawning face and also Australian Indigenous emojis.

One of the big issues with emojis, is understanding what they actually mean with countless people getting tripped up using the wrong emoji.
